Dr. Lundström completed his medical studies at the University of Linköping, Sweden and graduated in 1990 and received his PhD in oncology-pathology at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm in 2007. He received a specialist degree in medical and radiation oncology and pain management at Karolinska University hospital, Stockholm. Swedish.

Staffan was a visiting research scientist at The Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice and University of California San Diego August 2008 to July 2009.  He is the founder and coordinator of the Palliative Research Network in Sweden (PANIS), which today comprises 45 palliative care units all over the country.

Dr. Lundström is also the Co-founder and member of the board of the Swedish National Quality Register in Palliative Care.  He serves as a member of the expert group on analgesics in the Department of Drug Management and Informatics in Stockholm County Council, Sweden and is a member of the board of the Swedish Association for Palliative Medicine.

Associate editor of Journal of Palliative Medicine Lecturer in pain medicine and palliative medicine with assignments both nationally and internationally. Special topic: Treatment of severe cancer-related pain.

Research interests are consistently ongoing in corticosteroids, opioid pharmacology, end-of-life care.
